Submission Opportunities

Carefully review the guidelines and FAQ before submitting your work. Please use our format for submitting your poetry (unless it is for a spoken word event).

It’s not symptomatic, it’s systematic

We invite you to submit your poems for inclusion in our upcoming anthology, "It's Not Symptomatic, It's Systematic." This collection seeks to shed light on the pervasive yet often hidden experiences of systematic abuse and trauma. We aim to explore how these deep-seated issues affect individuals and communities, highlighting the resilience and struggle for recovery and recognition.

Themes and Inspiration: Your submissions should delve into the impacts of systematic abuse—whether personal, societal, or institutional. We encourage poems that:

  • Examine the interplay between systemic abuse and personal trauma.

  • Critique the broader societal and institutional mechanisms that perpetuate abuse.

  • Share narratives of healing, resistance, and perhaps an aspiration for systemic change.

  • Reflect on how systematic abuses shape identity, relationships, and daily life.

Submission Guidelines:

  • You may submit up to three poems, all in a single document.

  • We accept previously published work.

  • Include a brief bio (50-100 words) with your submission (in the same doc)

  • Use the submission form below and please use the template provided.

  • The submission deadline is [specific deadline].

What We Are Looking For: We seek authentic, powerful voices that challenge, move, and inspire. Your work should deeply engage with the theme of systemic abuse, aiming to resonate on both personal and universal levels. We welcome and value diverse perspectives from all backgrounds.

Compensation and Charity: While we cannot offer monetary compensation, we believe in the power of poetry to enact change. All profits generated from the sales of this anthology will be donated to Strong Minds, supporting efforts to address and combat depression in Africa. By contributing, you help raise awareness and aid those affected.

This anthology is more than a collection of poetry—it's a movement towards understanding, justice, and healing. Join us in making a significant impact through your words and experiences.

We look forward to your contributions and thank you for being part of this vital conversation.
