Poetry Open Call:
For Those Who Despair

We live in an age where despair feels constant: genocide on our screens, a collapsing climate, systems of oppression that seem unbreakable. It is tempting to believe humanity is the problem. And yet, history and lived experience remind us that even in the darkest times, people still choose care, solidarity, and love.

For our next anthology, Sunday Mornings at the River invites poems that wrestle with despair — and with the stubborn survival of hope. We are looking for work that confronts systems of oppression (patriarchy, capitalism, white supremacy, imperialism), that bears witness to grief and rage, but also gestures toward defiance, resilience, or tenderness.

Send us your poems of resistance. Your visions of love chosen above fear, of solidarity over silence. Let this collection speak to all who have felt the weight of despair and yet refused to give up.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Up to 3 poems, all in one document

  • Include a short 3-line bio in the same document

  • Poems will be edited in UK English with standard punctuation and capitalisation

Our editor works with her energy, not with deadlines.

A note: if you send us questions already answered in the FAQ on our website, you won’t get a reply — we simply don’t have the capacity. Please check there first.

Send your submission via our form.

Deadline: when we reach the required number of submissions.

We can’t wait to read your words.
